Cowboys 38 Seahawks 17 (Final)10/31/2009

This is where you can get in-depth stats, summary, analysis, and play-by-play for Sunday’s Seahawks game against the Cowboys.

The Cowboys did what they should do, beat an inferior team, especially at home.

Until a little sloppiness late—they dominated the Seahawks.

It’s an NFC win and should vault them into a tough stretch at Green Bay and Philadelphia.

Romo has really played well, in the Cowboys five wins, no interceptions, in their two losses, he’s thrown a pick.

Romo hit TEN (10) different receivers today and that’s a great sign too.

It seems JJ always brings up Ogletree in his press conferences10/27/2009

It seems JJ always brings up Ogletree in his press conferences

Ever notice that every time Jerry Jones addresses a WR question, particularly a Roy Williams question, he always ends up talking about Ogletree? In various past interviews Jones has talked about Ogletree’s speed and hands. In his latest interview on The Fan, Jones talks about Ogletree’s exceptional route-running ability.

I hope that we’re about to see Ogletree’s debut against Seattle where he gets significant playing time as a WR. But I have a feeling the coaches are still reluctant. That’s why I want this team to capture a blowout lead early so that the coaches at least have the option of playing Ogletree with minimal risk, as they see it.

It’s time for the kid to play.

Wow, so far I’m shocked. Jerry is preaching not getting too high or too low because it’s such a long season, and saying we have a lot of things to work on. Is this really him?

Ware, Cowboys agree on contract extension…10/26/2009

Dallas Cowboys, DeMarcus Ware agree on contract extension
By TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News

(Jay Glazer of foxsports.com is reporting the contract is for 6-years, $78Million with $40M guaranteed)

IRVING – It might have taken some time, but DeMarcus Ware and the Dallas Cowboys have come to terms on a contract extension.

The length and figures are not known but the Cowboys have a press conference scheduled for 4:30 today at Valley Ranch.

At 27, Ware is entering the prime of his career and has recorded four sacks in his last two games. A first-round pick in 2005, he has 57.5 sacks in his career and has been named to the Pro Bowl in each of the last three seasons.

Ware led the NFL with 20 sacks in 2008, becoming just the sixth player since sacks became an official stat in 1982 to reach that mark in a season. He also shares the NFL record with Simon Fletcher for consecutive games with a sack with 10 and he holds three of the top-five sack seasons in franchise history.

Without an extension of the collective bargaining agreement, Ware was scheduled to be a restricted free agent after this season.

In the off-season, Washington signed defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth to a seven-year, $100 million deal with $40 million guaranteed. Baltimore outside linebacker Terrell Suggs signed a six-year, $62.5 million deal with $38.1 million guaranteed and Pittsburgh inked James Harrison, who beat out Ware for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award last season, to a six-year, $51 million deal with $20 million guaranteed.

Ware’s contract falls in line with what owner and general manager Jerry Jones has done in the past, taking care of younger players before they can hit free agency. He has done it with Tony Romo, Bradie James, Jason Witten, Jay Ratliff, Terence Newman and Andre Gurode.

Thorough breakdown on Cowboys 2-TE success…10/23/2009

I usually don’t post too many x’s and o’s articles because they tend to run very long…but this one from Bob Sturm in D Magazine had me hooked from start to finish. It’s long, wordy, but incredibly thorough and tons of great information.

Enjoy.

Roy Williams status still uncertain…10/23/2009

Cowboys concerned about Roy Williams
By: Calvin Watkins, ESPNDallas.com

IRVING — Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said Friday he’s concerned about the playing status of wide receiver Roy Williams.

Williams is still recovering from three bruised ribs, suffered Oct. 4 at Denver. Yet, Williams said he expects to play.

But Phillips said Williams is in pain, even when he catches a pass in practice.

“The guy I’m worried about is Roy Williams,” Phillips said before the team’s workout. “He has practiced, but he is in pain sometimes.

“But he told me he wants to play and feels like he can play . . . We’ll see how he practices today. He says he wants to play and feels like he can. Of course, our doctors and trainers are looking at it, also.”

Williams has had two weeks to get healthy since the injury. He missed the Kansas City game on Oct. 11, and last week was a bye week.

If Williams doesn’t start, the Cowboys are expected to keep Patrick Crayton as a starter, along with Miles Austin.

Not sure what to think of this one…10/23/2009

I’m not sure what to make of this article—it could be Jerry finally realizes you don’t have to pay for the high-priced free agents and he’s also cut some losses with the release of Terrell Owens back during the spring.

There’s also speculation he doesn’t have as much “available” cash due to the expenses of Cowboys Stadium. Who would blame him after the $1.2B monstrosity?

Is Jerry Jones strapped for cash?

If only Jerry Jones could find someone to sponsor Jerryworld, his sparkling new football palace, maybe times wouldn’t be quite so tight for the Dallas Cowboys. Jones, one of the NFL’s revenue-creating visionaries for two decades now, has either cut back spending on his on-field product or he’s taken a new approach to building his roster, because the man typically on top of the league when it comes to spending is now looking up at just about everyone else. NFL Management Council figures for committed cash — the actual dollars teams spend on their roster, a better indication of where a club is at than the salary cap because it indicates real money spent — show that Jones and the Cowboys rank 31st in the league with $93.5 million committed for the 2009 season. The only team below Dallas in the most recent figures? The Kansas City Chiefs at $89 million. It’s a stark contrast from where Jones is used to being. From 2004 to 2008, a run of five seasons, he spent $566 million, more than any club in the league. Even in a rough economy, Jones isn’t broke. But there’s certainly a sense that he’s strapped for cash or has a new model in mind when it comes to building the organization. The numbers say so.
